This week's topic from The Broke and the Bookish is... My Top 10 Favorite Characters of All Time! I super dig this topic, and my twist on it is to focus on transgressive and/or assertive memorable female characters from literary works. Let's do this.
10. Elizabeth Bennett from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice
9. Celie from Alice Walker's The Color Purple
8. Helen Talboys from Mary Elizabeth Braddon's Lady Audley's Secret
7. Antoinette Cosway from Jean Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea
6. Meridian Hill from Alice Walker's Meridian
5. Juliet (or the anonymous woman) from Frances Burney's The Wanderer; or, Female Difficulties
4. Sophie Croft from Jane Austen's Persuasion
3. Orlando from Virginia Woolf's Orlando
2. Cassie Logan from Mildred D. Taylor's Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
1. Irene Adler from Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock stories

Yay, I would never have thought of Cassie Logan, but I love that you included her! And of course I love Elizabeth Bennett as well. Have you been watching the Lizzie Bennett Diaries on YouTube? They're fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThanks! And I haven't... I'll have to check them out now. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you've introduced me to a whole lot of new book options here, I've definitely added most of them to my TBR list (pile).
ReplyDeleteKeep well!
Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI watched both versions of Persuasion (1995 & 2007) this week. Love that story. And Sophie Croft is a wonderful character. Here's my top ten characters:

Awesome! Which film adaptation did you like better?
ReplyDeleteI like them both, but I think in the 2007 version both Anne and the Captain speak more and explain what they're thinking, which is nice. Captian Wentworth was better looking in the 1995 version, but in the 2007 he grows on you and by the end I liked him a lot better. :-)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely check them out! I was just about to recommend them! (:
ReplyDelete(Great list, btw!)
