Giveaway the 1st: Little Women

I'm starting off our month of giveaways with one of my favorite books since I was a wee bookworm...  Little Women. Of course I always identified with Jo, the reader and writer, more than any other of the four sisters. In her quick-wittedness, creativity, integrity, and love for words, she was a role model for me.

If you didn't read the book, maybe you remember the 1994 film with Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Susan Sarandon, Christian Bale, and Claire Danes?! I'm not sure how much more 90s you can get with Winona, Kirsten, and Claire all in the same film. My 14 year old self couldn't have been more pleased.

So super cheesy, I love it. And could the trailer voiceover guy work in "FOR THE HOLIDAYS" a few more times? I'm not sure everyone caught it.

Back to the book itself, it's one I return to every few years to see how I've changed, how the dialogue and descriptions read to me as I grow up and older.  The story is sort of based on the author's family (Alcott had three sisters) and is set in the Civil War era U.S. As the oldest of three, having a little sister, myself, I loved reading about the girls' disagreements. The author shows her readers how siblings can live through difficult times, experience conflict and loss, and move through life together.

The Huns are a bit like the March sisters: "...for though we do have to work, we make fun of ourselves and are a pretty jolly set...!" Aw! Friends!

Love "Little Women!" I probably read it ten times as a kid. Not sure I've really read a book that mirrored my life (at least not one I should own up to:), but I can tell you that bossy, know-it-all pre-teen Lisa sure did identify with Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter books! hah!
